15 December 2008

The Australian Government has released its White Paper on the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.


This year, the GGAS office will be closed during the Christmas period, between 25 December 2008 and 2 January 2009. For Registry users, the GGAS Registry will be fully functional during this period however the Registry helpdesk will be closed on public holidays.

Any payments received during this period for certificate creation will be processed on 5 January 2009.

On 5 December 2008 the Minister for Energy, the Hon Ian MacDonald MP amended the Greenhouse Gas Benchmark Rule (Demand Side Abatement) No. 3 of 2003. The amendments have reduced the maximum abatement factor which may be claimed for the replacement of incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) from 0.9 to 0.15.  This amendment will apply from 1 January 2009.

On 18 June, the Government announced that new targets for energy efficiency under GGAS will be introduced from 1 January 2009.

The NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change and the NSW Department of Water and Energy invite stakeholders and members of the public to make comments in writing on the design of the NSW Energy Efficiency Trading Scheme (NEET).

On 18 June, the Government announced that new targets for energy efficiency under GGAS will be introduced from 1 January 2009.

The NSW Department of Water and Energy and Department of Environment and Climate Change are now leading the development of a detailed policy and legislative framework to implement the new arrangements. 

Interested parties are invited to attend a Stakeholder Consultation Forum being conducted by the NSW Government on 4 July 2008.

The GGAS Scheme Administrator has released the 8th Issue of the Scheme Newsletter.

 

The NSW Minister for Energy has released the Consultation Paper - Transitional Arrangements for the NSW Greenhouse Gas Reduction Scheme.

The Paper is part of the process of developing a NSW Government position on all the issues relating to the end of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Scheme (GGAS) as it transitions to a National Emissions Trading Scheme (NETS). The closing date for comments is Monday 28 April 2008.

The Department of Water and Energy are holding a GGAS-NETS Transition Forum on Thursday 10 April 2008 at the NSW Trade & Investment Centre, Level 47 MLC Centre, 19 Martin Place SYDNEY from 2-4pm.
